Course Description

This course provides an overview over the geopolitical transformation in East Asia from the dawn of the tribute-system in the mid-nineteenth century to 1945. By integrating perspectives from economic history and intellectual history, this course seeks to analyze the key political events in the context of the region’s social and cultural developments.
