Course Description

In this course, we will discuss Japanese popular literature that was established around the end of the Taisho era.
Until now, the study of modern Japanese literature has focused on the famous works of authors who appear in general literary histories. The question of this has been shared by many, and popular literature, which has rarely seen the light of day, has finally begun to attract attention. In this class, we will study popular literature, which is rarely discussed in existing literary histories, but which was closely connected to the popular culture of the same period, such as magazines, movies, and rental books, in a diachronic manner, citing its works.
The following class schedule is planned, but is subject to change.
