Course Description

The Middle East is a region full of ethnic and religious diversity. The diversity is both the interest and the difficulty of studying this region. In this course, students will learn about the situation in each country, regional issues, and social and cultural characteristics of the Middle East, taking into account its historical background.
Specifically, students will learn the general flow of Middle Eastern history and basic knowledge of the three major religions of the Middle East (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). We will then focus on the situation in Turkey, Iran, Egypt, and Saudi Arabia. Through these studies, students will acquire a basic knowledge of the Middle East and understand and explain the characteristics and issues of each Middle Eastern country.
