Course Description

In this class we consider the social and cultural difference between Japan, US and France by means of the comparative study on their comic books; Manga in Japan, comic books in US and Bande dessinee in France. Their approach of cultural vision on the fictive world differs each other, and in particular, the way of behavior of comic heros toward his girl friend. In Japan, comic world has its particular field only for girls, the Shojo Manga, where the yong heroines tell their relation with boy friends. We can maybe easily take the meaning of these stories comparatively.
