Course Description

　Japanese people like supernatural creatures called Yokai. The animations, games, and books based on these Yokai are quite popular in Japan, and Yokai such as “Oni,” “Kitsune,” and “Kappa” are even subjects of worship. Yokai are necessary to understand the spiritual world of Japanese people.
　The class is titled “Advanced study of Yokai.” The purpose of this class is to study how Yokai are related to Japanese society through animations and other forms of artwork. Students not only enjoy media such as “Nihon Mukashibanashi” and other anime based on Yokai, but also study Japanese culture and spirituality behind such works.
