Course Description

This course focuses on the intellectual history of early modern Japan (17th to early 19th ct.). It introduces students to a wide range of primary sources from various intellectual traditions (Confucianism, Buddhism, Dutch Studies etc.) as well as recent debates in the study of early modern intellectual history. Students are encouraged to conduct their own research projects (these can be designed as graduation projects).
