Course Description

In the “Topics in Wester History 1B-II" we will study about early modern Italian history. Italy had a leading place in the Renaissance Europe but many historians considered that it fell into a decline in the early modern period, especially because Spain established complete hegemony over almost all the Italian States in the seventeenth century. In this course we will try to reconsider this negative connotation of the early modern Italy, and examine the social and political situations of the whole Italian States from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century.
