授業の概要（ねらい）

　This class is conducted in English. The class provides a unique chance with Japanese students with English competence and international students to interact, discuss, and work together in a collaborative setting. This is a seminary-style class conducted by Problem Based Learning (PBL) as a continuation of Japan Research I.
　First, we will review the basic definition of “culture”, “communication” , “intercultural communication”, or “relationship between culture and language”. Second, we will critically analyze the cultural aspects represented or illustrated in Japanese language textbooks or teaching materials written for international students. In groups of interests students are expected to make a final presentation for the problems and solutions found in these materials.

　To be able to use English to discuss and critically analyze Japanese culture.
　To be able to explore cultural and social problems in Japan.
　To be able to present your analysis of Japanese culture in English

成績評価の方法および基準

　25%　Participation and Preparedness
　25%　Quizzes and Writing Assignments
　50%　Mid-term. Final Class Reports, and Final Presentation
　More than 5 time absents is not allowed.

　This is not a class for passive students who want an easy credit. Students are expected to come to class on time, do homework, and actively participate discussion or group work in the class.
　The class schedule is subjected to change depending of students’ interests
