授業の概要（ねらい）

この授業では、西洋と日本の社会の本質について探究する。具体的には、日本の心理学を理解するための重要な概念となっている「甘え」だけでなく、「自由」を含む主要なリベラルな概念に焦点を当てます。政府と社会の関係、民主主義、社会運動のような（市民）社会の役割を再考する。私たちが住む今日の社会について深く再考します。

This class explores different understanding about the nature of the societies in the West and Japan. Specifically, it focuses on the key liberal ideas including “freedom” as well as amae which has become the key concept to understand Japanese psychology. It allows students to reconsider the role of (civil) societies such as state-society relationship, democracy, social movements. It provides an opportunity to rethink deeply about today’s societies we are living in.

・日本の文化や社会が、海外からどう理解されているのかを考える
・積極的に様々なオンラインツール（例 LMS掲示板）を用いて学ぶ

・To understand the difference between Western and Japanese societies and its discussion internationally
・To understand the international viewpoints on Japanese culture and society
・To learn actively through multiple online tools (e.g. LMS bulletin board)

・プレゼンテーション (オンライン) 30%

準備学修の内容

・教科書や配布された資料を事前に読み、与えられた課題を提出する
・プレゼンテーション準備（資料調査、スライド の作成、原稿の作成）

・Read the textbook and/or materials beforehand and submit the assignments when given
・Presentation preparation (research, PPT slides, script)

その他履修上の注意事項

・主な使用言語は英語（資料、ディスカッション、リフレクション・ペーパー）
・少なくともミニッツペーパーを毎回提出することで出席だとみなす (授業に関するスライドなどを閲覧するだけでは出席だとみなせない)
・プレゼンテーションについて、発表者の場合はオンライン上（例 Googleドライブ）にあげる。発表者ではない場合、それぞれの発表に対するフィードバックを与えなければならない（詳細は第１回の授業で説明し、具体的な手順はアンケートを取り、決定する可能性もある）

・This class is conducted mostly in English (materials, discussion, reflection papers)
・As for attendance, you need to at least submit a minute paper per class (only checking PPT slides etc will not be counted as attendance)
・Regarding presentation, if you are presenters, you will upload the PPT slides and voice recording on online platform (e.g. Google Drive) . If you are listeners, you need to submit feedback for every presenter per presentation week (further explanation will be provided in Week 1 and details might be decided by questionnaires)
