Course Description

This course deals with lectures, presentation and discussion in English and aims to
1. Read papers and text books explaining biological issues.
2. Read selected papers published in international magazines such as Science, Nature, Cell and PNAS as well as newspaper featuring articles in bioscience and environmental science.
3. Explain their own research themes referring to the related papers
The aim of this course is to help students acquire the DP2 and DP4 related knowledge and performance.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, participants are expected to
(1) Enhance students' English proficiency and development of academic study skills and their ability to think critically which is required for graduate students and researchers retained by a bioscience-related company.
(2) Explain scientific issues such as their own research themes in English.

Grading Policy

Your final grade will be calculated according to the following process: Oral examination of each class and exam on LMS (50%), and presentation (50%).

Requirements(Assignments)

(1) Students are expected to read the corresponding sections of the textbook. (60 min)
(2) Students should take a conformational test on LMS and review the key points of each class on the notebook. (30 min)

Please carry the English-Japanese dictionary and the Japanese-English dictionary. Electronic dictionary also can be used.
