Course Description

In this lecture we will learn about the History and culture of the East Asian regions. During this semester we will learn about the process of forming various "Traditional Society and Culture" in East Asia centered on China before the 19th century. In addition, we aim to acquire a perspective to understand the various problems of the modern world, together with historical backgrounds of the past.

Course Objectives

The students should learn basic knowledge such as geography, nature, ethnicity, religion, etc. in the East Asian region, and should understand the relationship with the ecological environment and each region's "characteristics" in East Asian "pre-modern history", and aim to be able to explain the relationship with contemporary problems.

Grading Policy

Assessment is based on final exam or report (50%) and regular point (50%). The regular point is judged from the status of the LMS issue, etc.
For the explanation of the test or report and each LMS issues, evaluation viewpoints and examples of answers will be explained in the LMS.

Textbook and Reference

Requirements(Assignments)

The lecture is based on the premise that the basic facts are confirmed, and there are many conceptual explanations such as framework, flow, and causal relation, so please read and prepare the corresponding part of introductory books for basic matters (Around 30 minutes to 1 hour.).
After the class, it is essential to review the contents of the explanation and the descriptions of the relevant parts in the introductory books, summarize them, and further deepen the students' understanding by reading the references introduced. (Around 1 hour to 30 minutes.)
In parallel with the course progress, we will set up a task to measure the level of understanding using the LMS for each unit, so please do it outside of class hours. It will need some extra time to review (About 30 minutes.).
Specific guidelines will be provided as needed during classes.

Note

The material will be distributed by LMS. In the classroom, please proper manners and be quiet so as not to interfere with the lecture.
Since there is a limit to what can be explained during class hours, each student should read references introduced in the library outside class hours to actively learn about the background and related topics.
