Course Description

The course examines the evolution of the relations between politics and media since the Meiji Restoration. Under the Constitution of the Empire of Japan, how did the government contorol media?
Why did most Japanese media support Japanese invasion to China after the Manchurian Incident in 1931?
The course also deals with journalists such as Tanzan Ishibashi, Yuyu Kiryu, Rokko Kikutake, Tunego Baba, Kiyoshi Kiyosawa, who were critical to Japan's military government.
