Course Description

A resarch reading seminar examing historical issues of Japan.Topics include the comfort women issue, wartime laborers at Japan firms, war responsibility of Emperor Showa. We also deal with the document known as "Showa Tenno Dokuhakuroku"( "Emperor Showa's Monologue").The primary goal of this course is to learn that there are a variety of views on history. Secondly,students will learn that it is not easy for people of different nation-states to share a common hisotrical view. The third goal is to learn that people can be reconciled when they honestly look at their history.
