Course Description

This course is designed to help students acquire the basic skills necessary to work as an interpreter between Japanese and English. Students will start with consecutive interpretation, which is conducted in short or long segments. An interpreter may rely on memory or note-taking. The final goal of the students is to be versed in simultaneous interpretation, which is conducted at the speed that does not disturb the natural flow of the speaker. The class consists of practices, not the lectures of the instructor.
