There are many performing arts that have been enjoyed in Japan. Kabuki and Bunraku, which were established in the early modern period, are representative of these.
Kabuki originated as a Kabuki dance performed by young girls that became popular about 400 years ago, and has since been transformed in various ways to suit the times. Bunraku, a narrative art form, was transformed into a stage art form about 400 years ago when it was combined with puppeteering.
