Course Description

We will learn about Bunraku, one of the early modern theatrical forms. Bunraku was established about 400 years ago, developed throughout the early modern period, and has been enjoyed by many people since the modern era. In this course, we will deepen our understanding of the characteristics of Bunraku by focusing on two of its representative plays, "Sugawara Denju Tenarai Kagami" and "Shinpan Uta Zaimon".
